I have childhood memories of visiting relatives forge workshops and hearing of both Grandfathers blacksmithing careers in Somerset. This planted a seed in my imagination which would germinate in later years.
On leaving school I explored a future in art and design and eventually specialised in sculpture. In 1999 this led me naturally to the craft of blacksmithing and I returned to Somerset where I gained some experience at My uncle Master Blacksmith James Horrobin’s forge at Porlock and Bill Porrier’s forge at Roadwater. From there I went to study blacksmithing and metalwork at Hereford which proved for me to be invaluable. I was also very lucky to continue my training under Master Blacksmith Paul Allen on the New Entrants Training Scheme 1 week every 2 months spread over two years at Hereford. This was the pinnacle of blacksmith training and sadly no longer exists.
Since 2003 I have created beautiful and unique hand-crafted metalwork in West Somerset and beyond. From private homes to shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs and public spaces. My metal work can be found in many towns and villages of this beautiful part of the world. The style of my work is often inspired by nature, and I have developed a name for high quality bespoke metalwork which I am proud of and look forward to continuing for years to come.

HANDMADE & UNIQUE
My approach is to work closely with my clients to design and create pieces of metalwork specific to their needs and specifications. Being handmade my work has solidity and is tactile and unique.
I make many things such as: gates, railings, handrails, curtain rails, fire baskets, candlestick holders, grills for security or safety, garden or wall sculptures, brackets, decorative screens, house signs, hinges and much more.
If you are interested in having something made, please email me at benhorrobin@hotmail.com with your enquiry. I can then make a site visit if needed to discuss your requirements. From there I can send a design and quotation. Please do not hesitate to ask.
